

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Chappetta, Sr. and Winnfred Sutherland Chappetta; brothers, Nicholas, Norman, Melvin (Pete), Louis (Lukie) Chappetta; sister, Shirley C. Smith; brother in-law, John T. Callahan, Jr.; sister in-law, Deloras Callahan.
Beloved husband for 63 years to Suzanne Callahan Chappetta; survived by daughter, Suzanne C. Berthiaume (Merlin, Jr.), sons, August “A.J.” Chappetta, Jr. (Diana), Dino (Monica) Chappetta; sisters Patricia Wartt and Kathleen McClure; grandchildren, Chad Berthiaume, Courtney Chappetta, Aimee B Robertson (Jonathan), Blake Chappetta, Brittany C. Springer (Jeffrey), Taylor Chappetta, Kelly Capello; great grandchildren, Jackson Springer, Jayden Chappetta, Kendyll Chappetta, Hunter Richard; devoted sister in-law and brother in-law Rosie and F. J. Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews ; and brother in-law, Gerard Callahan.
Gus was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a professional truck driver for 30 years with Campbell 66 Express as well as a volunteer with St. Joseph Abbey, Pennies for Bread and the Covington Food Bank. He was a parishioner at St. Clement of Rome in Metairie and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. and a graveside service will follow the mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
