Beryl David Ames, October 12, 1930 - September 17, 2022, age 91, passed away after a lengthy illness. He was born in New Orleans to Lester and Mini Ames. He had two older sisters, Gerry Antis and Sarah Rabin who preceded his death. Beryl is survived by the love of his life, Jacqueline Strauss Ames. They were married for 69 years and met through family connections when they were teenagers. They did everything together including jogging, tennis, date night and traveling. Beryl loved to exercise daily at the Jewish Community health club. He was the first child in his family to go to medical school and became a doctor practicing in the area of Internal medicine. He was beloved by his patients before retiring 20 years ago. Beryl proudly served in the military in the naval reserves during his medical residency. He was stationed in both Jacksonville and Key West, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He regularly attended Touro Synagogue study groups. He was a member of several synagogues in the New Orleans area including Shir Chadash, Chabad of Louisiana and Touro Synagogue. He is survived by his children Steve Ames, and Ellen Meltzer and his grandchildren: Grace Stieber, Rachel Fayman, Robert Ames, Samuel Ames, Ryan Meltzer, Wes Meltzer and Chloe Meltzer. Beryl has 10 great grandchildren: Audrey, Emma, Elijah, Harper, Levon, Jack, Gabriel, Leo, Sadie and Miriam. The family would like to give special thanks to Lake Louise Assisted Living and Rabbi Bauman. A private service will be held at Chevra Thilim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Chabad-Lubavitch of Louisiana.
