Betty was a graduate of Dominican High School, Class of 1962. She earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Orleans and later returned to UNO to earn her master's degree in Library Science. She spent her career as a schoolteacher and librarian, which surprised no one who knew how much she loved children and books.
A lifelong Catholic, Betty was happiest with a full house. She loved cooking for family parties, making sure every holiday was properly celebrated, and taking cousin trips that were as much about the company as the destination. She had a soft spot for her pets and a fierce devotion to her family and friends, most of whom had been part of her life for decades.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Noel V. Brodtmann Jr., and by her parents. She is survived by her children, Noel Brodtmann, Eric Brodtmann (Melissa), Kurt Brodtmann, and Laura Brodtmann Sagebiel (Faron); her sister, Jean Mora (Francis); and her grandchildren, Jared Brodtmann and Sophie Brodtmann. She is also survived by a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews, and their children. Her New Orleans roots, and especially her network of cousins, were at the center of her life.
The family extends special thanks to Betty’s cousin, Karen Polk, who was always there for her, whether it was tagging along on trips to visit her kids or driving her to countless appointments when she could no longer do it on her own.
