Betty Smith

Betty R. Smith, born April 6, 1931 in New Orleans, LA, died Monday, May 23, 2022 in New Orleans, died peacefully in her sleep; she was 91 years old. She was a devoted wife and mother who lived life to the fullest. She worked at T. Smith & Sons. Inc. where she met her late husband Jim Smith. Betty was fond of cooking with a preference to French cuisine. During her spare time she taught herself the art of painting. Her favorite art subjects were flowers as she enjoyed gardening. Her other hobbies included Tennis and playing Bridge with her many friends. Betty and Jim loved to travel the world. Along with her late husband Jim and her younger brother Warren, Betty was co-owner/co-founder of Hospitality Enterprises, Inc., a local company involved in tourism, including New Orleans Tours. New Orleans Paddlewheels and Airport Shuttle. She was preceded in death by her wonderful and loving parents, Warren Louis Reuther and Bernadine Agnes Wattigny, her late husband James E. Smith, her late daughter Shannon Anne Smith, and also by her late brother Brian Reuther. She is survived by her five sons, James E. Smith, Jr.(Sarah), Jason L. Smith, M.D.(Christin) Glenn W. Smith, Duane P. Smith, Craig W. Smith(Kay), ten Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren, her siblings, Warren Reuther Jr. and Douglas Reuther. Betty and Jim were enthusiastic and loyal parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Church. The life they created together was a blessing to their family and friends and the love that they gave will be carried forward by the generations that follow. Services will be private and held on Friday, May 27, 2022.
