Beverly Katherine Meariman Rogers died peacefully on June 5th, 2018, age 85, at Poydras Home after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Dr. Robert E. Rogers. They were married in 1953 until his premature passing in 1984. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Lori Rogers Poche’, her son-in-law, Carl, and grandsons Robert and James Poche’.
Beverly was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy and a lifelong New Orleanian who, except for shunning Mardi Gras parades, loved everything about her home town. Having said that, she did enjoy traveling, and with her husband saw the world. She was the consummate hostess, in addition to throwing cocktail and dinner parties; she was especially fond of entertaining her daughter’s Texas friends who loved to visit. “Mom Rogers” filled their rooms with fresh cut flowers, greeted them in the morning with fresh squeezed juice, and had wonderful home cooked food all day long. Cooking was her gift, at that she was a natural, improvising recipes to rave reviews which brought her immense joy. Beverly was an avid golfer who, truth be told, loved the social side of the sport even more than the competition. She was not ashamed to have a high handicap, and she used it artfully. She was a highly skilled card player, having as many as four bridge groups weekly and was deadly at gin rummy. Another passion was her Saints, normally known for her soft-spoken style, during Saints games she found her voice, and had people jumping out of their seats startled. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who lived to dote on her family and close friends. That was her greatest passion.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to all the amazing staff at the lovely Poydras Home, as well as Ms. Recasner and her staff, who assisted Mrs. Rogers admirably after the onset of her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Rogers to the Tulane athletic fund, the Green Wave Club, or the charity of your choice.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 12 PM in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park.
