The world lost a kind and generous soul when Robert (Bob) Allen Carrow passed into eternal life December 13, 2021. Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA December 29, 1928 to Harold Jones Carrow and Anita Jones, the third of five children. He retired to New Orleans in 1993 where he purchased an enormous French Quarter mansion, a place where he entertained lavishly. Bob was highly educated and well traveled but very modest about his accomplishments. He earned degrees from Carnegie-Mellon, NYU and Columbia. He served in the US Army in the CIC. He spent numerous seasons in summer stock at The Deertrees Theatre and The Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine as lighting and technical director. Bob was an airline executive in New York City when he realized his passion lay in teaching. For some thirty years he taught high school to immigrants in New York’s Chinatown in lower Manhattan earning, ‘Teacher of the Year’. Many students became enduring friends. Some he helped through college. Another passion was animals, so he bought a farm in Bucks County, PA where he raised sheep, peacocks, exotic chickens and dogs. He became an expert at shearing and birthing sheep. He took great delight in collecting art and antiques. Bob restored several Revolutionary-period homes. At his side for more than fifty was his life partner, Adrian Suarez. Together, they traveled the world, visiting more than fifty countries. Bob embraced Christianity through membership in the Episcopal Church where he gave freely of his time and money. He and Adrian retired to the Christwood retirement community in 2018 where Adrian passed away later that year. Bob cherished his time at Christwood and had nothing but praise for the nursing staff that helped him through his final years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially by his life long friends, Bob and Jan Carr for whom he served as best man at their wedding in 1951. Bob’s ashes will be interred next to Adrian’s in the Columbarium at Christ Church Cathedral on St Charles Avenue in New Orleans. A celebration of Bob Carrow’s wonderful life will be held at Christwood at a date to be announced. The family invites you to share fond memories and condolences online at www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
