Bonnie Johnson Murray passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on May 22, 2017. Born on November 24, 1957, she was a longtime resident of Metairie and parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Richard T. Murray, her children: Kyle (Darlene), Eric, and numerous relatives including siblings, nieces, and nephews. Bonnie was born on November 24, 1957 in Waynesboro, MS. Bonnie married the love of her life, Richard T. Murray on July 7, 1978. Her devotion to faith and family provided her greatest joy in life, witnessed in her sons – Kyle and Eric (and pets Gus and Sam). Bonnie’s strong Catholic faith was a guiding light throughout her life and served as an example for all. In her heart she regarded herself as the ‘luckiest’ member of the Murray family “Lucky Ladies Club”, and thoroughly enjoyed all time spent with her family throughout the years. When diagnosed in May of last year, Bonnie was given a tough prognosis, but she chose to put her “game face” on and confront this disease with everything she had. Armed with an undying hope and a spirited fight, Bonnie was in a battle she could not win. She will forever be an inspiration and hero to those who knew her and loved her most. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road, Metairie, Louisiana, on Thursday, May 25, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and followed by a Funeral Mass at noon. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, 5242 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, 70119. The Murray family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the Oncology teams at MD Anderson Mays Clinic, Ochsner Hospital, and heartfelt gratitude to the team of Passages Hospice for comfort and guidance provided in Bonnie’s final days.
