Bonnie Peneguy, a New Orleans native and resident of Metairie, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 after a battle with cancer and degenerative disc disease. She was 75. She was preceded in death by her father, Conrad Vincent Porbes of New Orleans. She was the loving and supportive wife of Will Peneguy of Metairie. Nurturing parent of Keith Peneguy and Anissa Peneguy Spraul, DVM, mother-in-law of Kathy (Burthe) Peneguy and David Spraul. Very proud grandmother of Jessica Peneguy, Teresa Peneguy and Piper Spraul. She was a graduate of John McDonogh High School and a professional dancer and instructor, and a longtime medical assistant with the Internal Medicine Group of East New Orleans. As a teenager, she was a dancer on the John Pela Show. After retirement she worked part-time at VCA Causeway Animal Hospital, and was a lifelong animal lover and dog owner. She was a member of a number of Carnival organizations. She was one of the first recipients of open-heart surgery, at age 11, performed by Dr. Denton Cooley in 1956, and at her passing was the longest-living survivor of the procedure. She was a volunteer with the American Heart Association. She displayed a witty sense of humor and radiant personality, and always a beacon of friendship.
