Brian Edward Schmidt, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. Born in New Orleans, Brian spent his life in the city he loved, surrounded by the family, friends, and community that meant so much to him.
Brian was a New Orleanian through and through. In his youth, he was a Boy Scout and later graduated from Jesuit High School and Loyola University of New Orleans, where he was a proud member of the infamous “Beggars” fraternity—a chapter of his life that brought him lifelong friendships and plenty of stories. He later graduated from the California College of Podiatric Medicine before returning home to New Orleans, where he practiced podiatry throughout the metropolitan area.
Brian had a genuine compassion for others, particularly those who might otherwise be overlooked. Throughout his career, he quietly provided care to indigent patients and visited elderly and vulnerable patients in nursing homes and in their own homes. That same kindness and patience extended to his family. Brian devoted himself to caring for both of his parents later in their lives, giving generously of his time and care when they needed him most.
Outside of work, Brian loved fishing, skiing, weightlifting, and, especially in his younger years, traveling and sharing adventures with friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh, but few things made him happier than being an uncle. He adored his nieces and nephews and treasured the time he spent with them and with the family he loved so deeply.
Brian is survived by his brothers, Eric Schmidt and Edward Schmidt, and by his beloved nieces and nephews: Talbot Schmidt, Gordon Schmidt, Emilie Schmidt, Eva Schmidt, Kiersten Schmidt, and Katherine Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Cuccia Schmidt; his father, Edward L. Schmidt Jr.; his maternal grandparents, Margaret and Anthony Cuccia; and his paternal grandparents, Edward L. Schmidt Sr. and Elvire Parr Schmidt.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, followed by a Catholic Memorial Service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.
