Calvin George Durel Jr.

Calvin George Durel, Jr., M.D. passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. He was 62 years old. Beloved son of Therese Naquin Durel and the late Calvin George Durel, Sr. Loving father of Jez Therese Durel (fiancé Jacob Morris), Calvin “Cauvin” George Durel III, Decatur John Durel, and Taylor James Durel (Tristan). Grandfather of Brayden, Rylan, Logan, and Chevelle. Brother of Rebecca D. Brown, Deborah D. Lehmann (Burt), Wendy Durel, Terry Durel, and Elizabeth D. Bowers (Vince). Uncle of Becky (Chris), Travis (Cindy), Kaitlyn (Chuck), Blaire, Dylan, Olivia, Brittany, and Tristan.

Calvin was born and raised in New Orleans. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School, Tulane University, and Tulane Medical School. He served his internship at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He began his career as an anesthesiologist in Oxford, Mississippi, and retired from Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

After retirement, Calvin lived a full and happy life, dedicated to his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
