

Carmen Mendez Box, beloved mother of Rebecca A. Cummings and Linda E. Cummings, passed away on June 20, 2018, after a long illness. She was a native of New Orleans and resident of Baton Rouge post-Katrina. Mrs. Box is survived by her two daughters, her cherished grandchildren, Sarah Olcott Allen and Zachary M. Olcott, and great granddaughters, Harper E. Allen and Amelia R. Allen. She was predeceased by her parents, Celina Guerrero and Alberto Mendez, and her husband Jack W.W. Box. She was the granddaughter of Enriqueta Z. Guerrero and great granddaughter of Jose Santos Zelaya, former president of Nicaragua.
Mrs. Box was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in New Orleans. She studied music from an early age and was a talented pianist. Mrs. Box and her late husband, Jack, were avid tennis players. She was an executive secretary for 27 years at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 1pm. A visitation will begin at 11am. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
