Carmen Isabel Posada-Pepper M.D.

February 28, 1930 – June 28, 2022
Obituary of Carmen Isabel Posada-Pepper M.D.
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Dr. Carmen I. Posada-Pepper passed peacefully in her sleep on June 28, 2022, in her home, surrounded by the people and things she cherished most. A lover of travel, art, opera, gardening, and cooking, Dr. Posada-Pepper lived a full and joyful life. Her indelible legacy will live on in her surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandson while she enjoys her eternal rest and peace in the Lord, Jesus Christ. Her earthly remains will be laid to final rest alongside those of her loving husband, Jerome, and youngest son, Matthew Louis, in Metairie Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in her and her late son’s honor at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Friday, August 5th at 10:00 A.M, preceded by a visitation at 9:30 A.M. A reception will follow the Mass at the home of her daughter, Gabriella Pepper St. Amant. A resident of New Orleans since 1950 and a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Posada-Pepper was one of the few surviving members of the Tulane Medical School class of 1954. She was a pioneering pediatrician in her field of juvenile diabetes, adding an MPH from Tulane’s School of Tropical Health and Public Medicine in 1973 to her list of outstanding academic and medical achievements. Dr. Posada-Pepper attended to her young patients throughout the Greater New Orleans area; her career spanned over 50 years, where she worked as a physician at Ochsner Hospital, East Jefferson Hospital, and other local hospitals; and in her private practice, all while still finding time to serve as adjunct faculty at Tulane and LSU medical schools. Dedicated to her work as a pediatrician, Dr. Posada-Pepper served as the President of the Louisiana Pediatric Society and as President of the Greater New Orleans Diabetes Association. Dr. Posada-Pepper married Jerome Pepper, P.E., at Holy Name Church in 1957 and, while working full-time, raised four children. Dr. Posada-Pepper is preceded in death by her husband Jerome and her son, Matthew Louis Pepper of Houston, Texas. Dr. Posada-Pepper is survived by her two sons, Jerry Pepper, and Edmond Pepper of New Orleans, one daughter, Gabriella Pepper St. Amant and her husband Marshall St. Amant of Baton Rouge, and one daughter-in-law, Shelly Norris Pepper of Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren, Jonathan, Margaux, Miranda, Matthew, and Piper Pepper, Kristin Pepper Ginsberg and her husband Jacob, Ysabella and Marshall St. Amant; and one great-grandson, Harrison Ginsberg. She is also survived by her niece, Eileen Crowe and her husband Wayne Harris and their sons Evan and Collin. The Pepper family is grateful for the support of her Sunday visitors Rosita and Ed Bischoff, friends, caregivers, physicians, and hospice care who supported and comforted her in her final days, especially Dolores Soler, Barbara Stanton, Elaine Lee, Pearl Lewis, Shaun Roach, Jackie Thomas, Jannie Yarbrough, Jaye Koehn, and the staff of Home Instead Senior Care and Lakeside Hospice. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge or a charity of your choice. Rest In Peace Sweet Mama
