

Carol was born in Cullman, Alabama on September 5, 1938 and moved to New Orleans in 1960 where she lived until her death on May 6, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Leroy C. Bledsoe and Betty Woodward Bledsoe. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s of Science and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Carol received a Master’s degree in audiology and speech pathology from Tulane University. She practiced audiology with the New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center and the New Orleans Public Schools’ Child Search Program. She was a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She served on the board of the Bright pre-school for the hearing impaired. She was a board member and founder of the Maple Area Residents Association. She also served on the Advisory Council for the Tulane International Hospitality Program, hosting many international students.
Carol had an outgoing and gregarious personality, punctuated by curiosity, a competitive edge and a slightly mischievous sense of humor. She enjoyed many hobbies, including, but not limited to, playing bridge, all water sports, dancing, painting, and extensive world travel including regular trips to Las Vegas, whereby all accounts, she always beat the house at craps.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband’s Alexander Clayton Cocke, Jr. (37 years) and Robert George Waring (2 years). She is survived by her son Alexander Clayton Cocke, III and her daughter Elizabeth Cocke Zervigon (Carlos), her sister Frances M. Bledsoe, and grandchildren Isaac, Luis, Phoebe Garay (Ricardo), Eli (Lisette), Carlos S., and Benjamin (JT Hassell), and two great-grandchildren, Ophelia and Oscar Garay.
