Carol Lise Brenner Rosen

Carol Lise was adored by everyone who knew her. She believed life was for living, and she lived it to the fullest. The consummate hostess, she regularly hosted friends and family to celebrate any and every occasion. It was a treat to attend one of her countless dinner parties, surrounded by people she cared about and a meal she executed with the grace and skill of Julia Child (who she met many years ago). She believed in making guests feel welcome and at home at her table. She loved a party and was often one of the first to join and last to leave a dance floor.

Dining out at New Orleans' culinary institutions was one of her favorite pastimes. Many an evening was spent at Galatoire's, where she would have a dry Beefeater martini (up, with a twist) delivered as she was seated at her table, with fried eggplant, soufflé potatoes, and a gouté not far behind. She could often be seen lunching at Pascal's Manale, having turtle soup at Commander's Palace, or having oysters with brie at Clancy's, and always with a cocktail and smiling group of friends and family.

She loved to travel and visited five continents, dozens of countries, and nearly every state during her lifetime. She was curious about the world and imparted that curiosity and love of travel to her daughters and grandchildren. She was especially enamored with Paris, where she and Irving took each of their granddaughters at a young age. She loved New York, particularly the theatre and fine dining. She traveled internationally well into her eighties and never lost her drive to see and experience the world outside of New Orleans.

Carol Lise was a force. She had a determination that she paired with exceptional generosity to support many causes and organizations across New Orleans, including the Vieux Carre Commission Foundation, the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Touro Infirmary Foundation, Tulane University, and Isidore Newman School, among many, many others.

Carol Lise is already deeply missed by her daughters, Beth Murov (Ellis) and Edie Bender (Ralph); her grandchildren, Caroline Crosby (Tac), Maitland DeGenova (Alex), Becca Haymonds (Alex); Jeffrey Bender (Chelsea), and Ashley Bender (Aaron Anderson); and her great-grandchildren, Kate and Tac Crosby, Eli Bender, and Gideon and Kaplan Anderson, as well as many loyal friends. She is predeceased by her beloved Irving Rosen, to whom she was married for nearly 60 years; her parents, who she lost too early; and her grandson, Eli Murov.

The family would like to thank Corrine Conerly for over 50 years of friendship and service. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who treated and cared for Carol Lise in her final days: the medical and support staff at Touro Infirmary, the team at Passages Hospice, and the wonderful women (MeMe Canizales, Jean Selders, Lee King, DeMayo Gomez, Latoya Turner, and Mrs. M. Howard) who kept her company and made sure she was never alone or in pain.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Temple Sinai, 6227 Saint Charles Ave. in New Orleans, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00AM, with visitation to begin at 10:30AM. A private burial was held at Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. III.
