Carol Schmidt Gonzales

Carol grew up in New Orleans, LA. She was employed with Whitney Bank as a Bank Teller and Customer Support Specialist until retirement. She then volunteered at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in the gift shop.

Carol loved spending time with her family. It was her greatest joy. She especially loved sharing time with her grandchildren, always having them at her house, or taking them places to do their favorite things together. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, camping, volunteering at church, and Bible Studies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Gonzales; son, Augie Gonzales; parents, James E. Schmidt, Jr. and Eunice Steppe Schmidt; and brother, James E. Schmidt, III.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Strain (Gene); son, Rick Gonzales (Kathy); four grandchildren, Tiffany Brooks (Ty), Megan Lathrop (Tyler), Sarah Gonzales (fiancé James), and Matthew Gonzales; also four great-grandchildren, Drew and Abby Brooks, and Evie and Wyatt Lathrop.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral arrangements on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, LA. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m. until service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd.
