Carolyn Jean Hunt-Loga (née Hunt) passed away in a car accident on May 20, 2026, at the age of 65. Beloved daughter of the late Elizebeth Jane Lilburn Hunt (née Forth) and Raymond Walter Frank Hunt. Beloved sister of Barbara Evelyn Hunt (of Dedham, MA) and Christopher Raymond Hunt and his wife Joanna Carter Hunt (of Tallahassee, FL). Beloved aunt of Sarah Hunt Allen and her husband Jonathan, Eleanor Catherine Hunt, Sterling Christopher Hunt and Ian Caldwell Hunt.
Carolyn was born in 1960 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and grew up in a family that traveled extensively and moved frequently during her childhood. Childhood homes include Winnipeg, Manitoba; Thompson, Manitoba; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Youngstown, Ohio; Shaker Heights, Ohio; and Coral Gables, Florida. The family spent many wonderful summers at their farm near Cascade, Wisconsin. During her senior year at Coral Gables Senior High School, Carolyn received the Miami Herald's prestigious Silver Knight Award for journalism and was recognized as a National Merit Scholar. She studied at Northwestern University in Chicago, then moved to Boston, MA, where she worked for Life Resources Incorporated, a Catholic Charities agency that served troubled teens and their families. Between 1985 and 2005, Carolyn worked as a legal secretary at Choate, Hall & Stewart, LLP, where she received numerous accolades for exemplary service and contributions to a cohesive and effective team environment.
In 2005, Carolyn married Emerson Phoenix Loga, III and moved to Slidell, LA. During their twelve-year marriage, Carolyn and Emerson were active members of Christ Episcopal Church in Slidell and the Tammany Yacht Club. Carolyn also worked with Emerson in managing their real estate ventures. Together, they cared for Carolyn's mother Betty and enjoyed memorable vacations with her in Cozumel, England, France, Ireland and Italy.
Carolyn's love of travel continued throughout her life, and she often shared her adventures and the joy of her experiences with family and friends. Proud of her Canadian heritage, Carolyn recently traveled with Barbara to visit relatives and explore ancestral homes in Canada, following earlier trips through Scotland and England.
In 2018, Carolyn joined the law firm of Jones Walker, LLP in New Orleans, as a legal secretary, working closely with senior partner Ken Najder and distinguishing herself as a valued and trusted colleague. Admired for her warmth, professionalism, and genuine willingness to support others, she received the firm's Above & Beyond Award in 2024 after multiple nominations recognized her exceptional expertise, collaborative spirit, dedication to excellence, and outstanding service.
Aside from gardening and cooking, Carolyn was an avid lover of poetry, literature, art and was particularly fond of cats, especially enjoying the antics of her current pets Fred and Jo. Above all, Carolyn was deeply devoted to her family, showing her love and support to her beloved siblings, nieces, and nephews in countless ways. Incredibly generous and thoughtful, she was always quick to identify the needs of those around her and to respond in kind. Carolyn often hosted family gatherings during holidays; she will be fondly remembered for her festive Christmas celebrations. Indeed, Carolyn epitomized the Christmas spirit of joyfully giving to others, leading her nephews to say, "It always feels like Christmas at Aunt Care's house." Her warmth, expansive love, and joyful presence will be sorely missed, but we will carry the profound gift of her life in our hearts always.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM (CST). Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery.
