Carolyn Campbell Riviere

Carolyn Campbell Riviere passed away peacefully at her home of 63 years, on Wednesday evening, September 23, 2026, with her children and grandchildren by her side. Age 84, she was a lifelong resident of Metairie, La. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years and childhood sweetheart, Paul E. Riviere, Jr., her parents, Bruce H. Campbell, Jr., and Odessia Latham Campbell. Survived by her children, Christen Riviere; Paul “Trey” Riviere, III (Sophia LeBlanc Riviere); Aimee Riviere and Ashley Riviere. Seven grandchildren, Paul “Peri” Riviere, IV; Sarah Riviere (Ian Condon); Charlotte Riviere; Luke Ladner (Mathilde Kjaer Ladner); Tanner Burgess (Brielle Moreau Burgess), Hunter Burgess; and John Michael Thomas. Her sister Peggy LaFleur (Jerald), brothers David Campbell (Fran), Douglas Campbell (Pat), and sister-in-law Ann Riviere Morrison. Also survived by many numerous nieces and nephews, and longtime friends.

She graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1959 and Southeastern Louisiana University in 1963 in Education and Library Science and taught for a few years before beginning her family. She was a homemaker for many years and active in her children’s lives, often volunteering at their school libraries and bookfairs. She was an owner of the family businesses, Paul E. Riviere, Inc. and Cimsco, Inc. until her death. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she had been a Eucharistic Minister and served other roles in the church, such as teaching Confirmation and marriage classes.

Carolyn absolutely loved gardening and was a member of the Old-World Rose Society. She enjoyed antique stores and flea markets and was a member of the New Orleans Depression Glass Society for many years. She was an avid reader and researcher of many genres, especially history, including family genealogy. She was a former member of several genealogy associations. One of her joys was to interview older family members and write down memories for future generations. She also loved spending time with family and friends at their home in Gulf Shores, AL.

Her legacy will be remembered as the beloved “GramC” of her 7 grandchildren and spouses and loving Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She loved freely and her generosity and devotion to all who knew her will be missed but live on in our hearts and memories. Her laughter and smile radiated a light, and her ability to show love and kindness were boundless as was her fierce protection of her family. Her quick wit and intelligence were some of her greatest gifts.

Devoted to her family, particularly her husband, children, grandchildren, her extended family, including the family dogs and grand dogs.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until noon, Mass of Christian Burial at noon, internment will follow at Metairie Cemetery.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the special “angels” at Guardian Hospice and Passionate Care Caregivers who loved and cared for her with such compassion and grace. As well as for all the support and compassion shown to her family during her transition. Especially Demetrice, Sheryl and Shika.

In lieu of flowers, Masses or Donation to the Helping Hands Outreach at St. Francis Xavier Church, 444 Metairie Rd., Metairie, LA 70005 preferred.
