Matriarch Cecilia Manlongat Balolong Melendez, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 30, 2024 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of Teofilo Soriano Melendez (Jimmy), cherished mother of Jessica Melendez Bayuga, Allan Bayuga, James Melendez, Ayrica Bennett, beloved Lola of Juliette Bayuga, Jacintha (TaTa) Balolong, cherished Ninang (Godmother) of Cheryl Balolong, Miles Moody, George Balolong, Jr., and Jewel Espinosa-Balolong.
Cecilia lived life to the fullest! She loved traveling, good food, fellowship, and trips to the casino with friends and family. Always generously sharing herself with others. She’s been an active pillar in the Filipino-American community since 1983, serving as a leader and influential member of numerous organizations in Louisiana.
As a registered nurse for 52yrs, her dedication to healthcare and human regard served as a mentor to novice nurses and advocate to patients. She retired from West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La. after working there for 32yrs. She was a matriarch to the lives she touched, and will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held honoring her ashes on April 8, 2024, 10:30am at Visitation of Our Lady, 3500 Ames Blvd, Marrero, La 70072.
