Charles led a life devoted to family, hard work, and helping others. Charles attended Our Lady of Lourdes grammar school and graduated from East Jefferson High School, where he played football (Jersey 21), track and field, and honed his skills to later participate in the Senior Olympics in Javelin. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years. During this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Buettner, whom they shared 62 years together raising seven children.
Charles owned and operated Cannon Electric for many years. He also worked with the Jefferson Parish Inspection Department as an electrical inspector and retired after 14 years.
Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife also had a passion for dancing. They spent many nights dancing and teaching people the Jamaica dance. His main passion was his vegetable garden that moved and motivated him because he was able to produce something that he could share with others. He spent the last five years tilling his garden, which kept him strong and going. No one could escape his deadly handshake. He was a man of few words, but would test you by the strength of your handshake.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Buettner Cannon; his brother, Daryl Cannon (Bonnie); and his six children, Dawn Cannon - Galstian (Paul), Charles Ray Cannon, III, (Kim), Andre Ransom, Eileen Cannon - Morter, Lisa Cannon, and Lori Scuderi.
Known as Paw Paw to his twenty-one grandchildren; Sarah Breaud (Nathan), Maycie Ransom, Shelby Scuderi, Andrew Galstian, Emily Cannon, Victoria DaQuin (Daniel), Meagan Giovingo (Vincent), Matthew Galstian, Charles Cannon, IV, Christian Cannon, Peyton Scuderi, Evan Ransom, Elizabeth Ransom, Ethan Cannon, Katie Scuderi, Cameron Scuderi, Makenzie Morter, Dylan Morter, Makalya Morter, Dustyn Morter, Elizabeth Cannon; and one great grandson, Pius Giovingo.
