

Doctor Charles Edward Taggart, II died at his home in Mandeville, LA. He was born on August 5, 1935 in New Orleans to Charles E. Taggart and Edna Casey Taggart. He grew up in Gadsden, Alabama. Charlie is survived by: his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia D. Taggart; his son, Charles E. Taggart, III; his daughters, Marie Taggart, Melissa Taggart Willmon his son-in-law, Jeffrey Willmon; his grandchildren, Thomas Willmon and Molly Willmon. His baby daughter Dorothy Marie Taggart and his sister, Faye Marie Taggart Gesser, preceded him in death.
Charlie graduated from St. Bernard High School in Cullman Alabama in 1953 and Loyola Dental School in 1960. He served as a Dentist in the Navy from 1960 to 1962.
A devout and devoted Catholic, Charlie received the Order of St. Louis award from Resurrection of Our Lord parish in New Orleans. After Katrina, Charlie and Pat moved to Mandeville and became members of Our Lady of the Lake Parish. Charlie and Pat brought Holy Communion to the homebound. Charlie loved God, his family, and his Catholic faith. He had many hobbies and carved a large cross from wood with all of Jesus’s wounds from His Passion, a statue of Mother Mary, and made clay statues of several saints. He also raised orchids and had a large greenhouse in New Orleans.
Charlie led a prayer group at his home in New Orleans for 17 years. Fr. Stan Klores came and was the spiritual director.
Charlie and Pat loved to travel and visited shrines in the Holy Land and all the Marian shrines, and from Ireland to France. Charlie practiced Dentistry in East New Orleans for 47 years and loved his patients and loved being a Dentist.

Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road Metairie, LA 70005. Visitation will begin at 9:45AM followed by a Mass at 11:30AM. Interment will be at All Saint Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers Masses are preferred or donations to Catholic Charities.
