Charles Toth, Inventor and Entrepreneur, died peacefully at home at 83 years old. His life’s work as a Chemical Engineer was dedicated to the patented Toth Clay to Aluminum Process that he had been researching and developing for decades.
Born in Hungary, Charles was a child during World War II. He grew up under NAZI occupation and survived frequent Allied bombings. While attending the University of Pannonia Engineering School in Veszprem, Hungary, he was severely injured fighting the Soviets in the student led Hungarian Uprising of 1956 and escaped from behind the Iron Curtain to the USA. He came to New Orleans in 1958 to work at Michoud on NASA’s rocket program.
Growing up in a communist country, Charles yearned to travel and own property, since those things were not allowed. He and his family traveled extensively around the world and he went to his farm every weekend to tend to his land and his fruit trees, grapes and muscadine wine.
While attending a Tulane University international students function he met his future wife of 54 years, Olivia Davila. He is survived by his 2 children Charles Ernest Toth and Caroline Toth Reily. His grandchildren from his son are Charles E. Toth III., Stephen E. Toth, Harrison G. Toth. His grandchildren from his daughter are William B. Reily V, John W. Reily (Deceased) and Hugh B. Reily. He is also survived by his sister, Maria Toth.
