Christopher Robert Blaeser, 72, of Metairie, LA, passed away after sudden complications due to Parkinson’s on August 11, 2025. Born in Chicago, IL on July 28, 1953, he is preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Elane C. Blaeser of Charlotte, NC. He is survived by his loving wife, of 37 years, Julie (Steedley) Blaeser; daughter, Magdalena Blaeser-Guillot and spouse, John Guillot of New Orleans, LA; daughter, Elizabeth Blaeser-Taylor and spouse, Justin Taylor of New Orleans, LA; and daughter, Samantha Lane Blaeser of Metairie, LA. Christopher also leaves behind an affectionate family of siblings, raised largely in Metairie. They are Brenda (and Eddy) Hensley of Houston, TX, Mark (and Donna) Blaeser of Marietta, GA, Eric (and Margaret) Blaeser of Charlotte, NC, Sandra (and Roy) Bowers of Martinez, GA, Gregory Blaeser of Kapolei, HI, and Peter (and Cathy) Blaeser of Batavia, IL. He is also survived by a loving step-grandson, Adrian Guillot and New Baby Blaeser-Guillot (due October 2025), as well as countless nieces and nephews and cousins.
Christopher was a graduate of St. John Vianny Preparatory School in New Orleans (1971), then earned an undergraduate degree in geology at UNO before moving on to the University of Georgia to complete his master’s degree in Geological Sciences. Upon graduation, he returned to New Orleans and worked as a geologist for Chevron Oil before transitioning years later to IT management in its early days. His work in IT led him to Invesco Capital Management in Atlanta, GA for ten years before he returned to New Orleans to work until his well-earned retirement from the Marine Forces Reserve in Gretna, LA in 2018.
Christopher loved collecting rocks and gemstones from his travels around the world. As a young man, he brought home over 40 pounds of rocks from England and Central America in a backpack. He loved bicycling and running, and competed in hundreds of 10Ks and half-marathons, and three 26-mile marathons, including the 1999 NYC Marathon. He possessed a green thumb that could make anything grow and flourish, including children. Chris enjoyed maintaining and growing the stamp collection that his maternal grandfather had begun, as well as an extensive Mardi Gras doubloon collection. Although he loved Atlanta, New Orleans was always his true home, and he loved sharing Mardi Gras and his city’s culture with his Atlanta babies. An avid science fiction fan, he enjoyed everything from Dr. Who to Star Trek to Starship Troopers. After recently moving to Metairie, he was enjoying leisurely walks on the beautiful Lakefront Trail at Lake Pontchartrain. Though he will always be missed, we know he is healed and whole and at peace.
Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation from 10 am to 12 pm Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 12 pm in the chapel. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.
