

Christopher Thomas Nieland, Sr. passed away on October 15, 2021 at the age of 59, following an extended hospitalization. Chris was born on November 30, 1961 to Paul Frank Nieland and Jacqueline Ann Nieland in Milton, Florida. Chris married his wife Kathryn Marie Rose in 1991 and they went on to have two children, Sarah and Christopher. Chris spent many years working in offshore draft and design before taking the lead in caring for his family. He was known for his generosity and welcoming others into his home and would frequently add another cooler to his collection, to ensure that everyone had a cold drink to enjoy.
Chris’ favorite hobbies included boating, beach time, playing with his dogs and watching a great sunset. He also enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have visited over 20 countries with family and friends.
Chris is preceded in death by his father, Paul and is survived by his mother, Jackie; brothers, Rick and Skip; his wife, Kathy ;his children, Sarah and Christopher; and his extended family including cousins, nephews, nieces, brothers, sisters-in-law, and life-long friends.
A private family service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 23, 2021 at the graveside of the Historic Metairie Garden Estate Chapel. A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at the Nieland home, following the service, starting at 12:30 p.m. Dress code for attendees is smart and casual, otherwise known as “Chris’ style”.
Through the care of the doctors and nurses at UMC, Chris was able to return home this summer and spend cherished time reunited with his family and beloved pets.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Chris to The Burn Center through the University Medical Center of New Orleans Spirit of Charity Foundation.
