Christopher S. O’Sullivan, Jr., known to family and friends as “Chris,” passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, in Metairie, Louisiana, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with cancer. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Chris leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Born on October 6, 1952, in Rutherford, New Jersey, Chris was the beloved son of the late Christopher O’Sullivan, Sr. and Dorothy O’Sullivan. Growing up in a close-knit family, he learned early on the value of hard work, loyalty, and faith—principles that would guide his life and career.
A proud graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, class of 1976, Chris pursued a life at sea and beyond with steadfast dedication. His passion for engineering and his skill in leadership led him to a successful career as a Chief Engineer, a position in which he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues around the world. Chris was also a proud member of the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA), where he found lifelong friendships and professional camaraderie.
Never one to rest on his accomplishments, Chris continued his education with an MBA from Loyola University, reflecting his belief in lifelong learning and personal growth. Whether at sea or ashore, his intellect and steady demeanor made him both a mentor and a role model to those around him.
Chris was deeply rooted in his faith and an active parishioner of St. Benilde Church, where he found comfort and purpose through worship and community, becoming involved in the Finance Committee and Men’s Club for St. Benilde Parish. He also enjoyed participating in the Irish Channel Marching Club, celebrating his Irish heritage with joy and enthusiasm each year. His sense of humor, understated wit, and warmth endeared him to everyone, from lifelong friends to those he had just met.
Above all, Chris was devoted to his family. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Cheryl O’Sullivan, whose unwavering support and love were the cornerstones of his happiness. He took immense pride in his two sons, Christopher O’Sullivan III and Michael O’Sullivan, guiding them with the same integrity and strength that defined his own life. Chris found great joy in his relationships with his siblings—Michael O’Sullivan, Dorothy Moody, Margaret O’Sullivan, Suzanne Anderson, and William O’Sullivan—who will remember him for his generosity, his wisdom, and his laughter. The number of people who knew Chris is far too long to be listed and spans more than one country, but everyone who had the opportunity to know him came away the better for it.
Chris’s life was one of service—to his profession, his faith, and his family. His gentle spirit and thoughtful nature touched many lives, and those who had the privilege of knowing him will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
