Clare Murtagh Schroder, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and previous employee of Whitney National Bank, died Saturday of cardiac complications at Riverbend Nursing and Rehab. Center in Belle Chasse, LA. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Schroder was born in New Orleans, LA and lived in Harvey, LA for the past 20 years. She was a wonderful and loving woman who valued family and friends above all else and who enjoyed sports tremendously, especially LSU and the New Orleans Saints. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping and bringing her children to many different places to share in picnics, crabbing, and swimming. After many years of working for Whitney Bank she retired and enjoyed spending time going to casinos, watching sports, and supporting her family in any events her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren participated in. Most recently her family was excited to be able to honor her with a 90th birthday party attended by nearly 100 friends and family members who loved her dearly. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Joseph Schroder of 43 years, her parents, Clare Robinson Murtagh and Elmer Murtagh, her sister, Valerie Cedatol, her brothers, Elmer David Murtagh and Gerard Murtagh granddaughter Therese Schroder and son-in-law Craig McDonald. Survived by children Cathy and Daryl Chauvin, Dawn McDonald (husband, Craig McDonald), Robert and Cindy Schroder and Darren and Marion Schroder. Also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jason and Ashley Chauvin, Megan Chauvin and Nancy Turner, Kaci and Josh Buwe, Ivy and Justin Anderson, Nathan Schroder, Zoe and Judson Searcy, Kaitlyn Schroder and Cassidy Schroder. In addition, Mrs. Schroder leaves behind seven great grandchildren who she also dearly loved. Amelia, Finn and Josie Chauvin, Hunter and Calan Buwe, Madi Williams and Ainsley Schroder. Also survived by her sister Gaynell Diaz and numerous family and friends who will greatly miss her loving ways and smile. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Ochsner West Bank staff, the staff of Riverbend Nursing and Rehab and Compassus Hospice for their exceptional care and comfort measures provided for our dear mother. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Visitation and Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard (in Metairie Cemetery) on Wednesday, September 28th. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the Funeral Mass beginning at noon. Interment will follow in St. Patrick No. 1 Cemetery.
