I met Kreg and Ken 30 years ago when I first joined Elmwood Fitness. Like so many before me have already stated, Kreg was an inspiration to everyone he met. A true reflection of the love and guidance he obviously got from Ken and Sue. Kreg always had a smile and sympathetic ear to anyone he met or at least he did for me. Considering the longevity of Ken and Sue I was completely dumb founded by the news of his death. My condolences to Heather and Liam, knowing they are the hardest hit by this tragedy. 

My sincere condolences to the family,  and friends of my good friend David Kreg Kachtik. 
I had the pleasure of working with Kreg, during which time I found him to be solid, trust worthy, and dedicated to the profession. He was kind and such a humble guy who would give you his time and ears to listen when you wanted to talk, and the shirt off his back if you needed one. 
You will be truly missed, and never forgotten. 
Rest easy my good friend, we got it from here....!

Sue and I took Kreg and Drew and Kristi and Grant (my kids) to south padre many summers.  We had a wonderful time.  We kept in touch as the kids grew older and the Kachtik boys always had a special place in my heart.  We are  very proud of the man Kreg grew to be....son, husband, father.  He will be sorely missed.

Prayers to Heather and the whole family.  I always picture Kreg standing by the front desk at Elmwood joking around.    We had such a great Elmwood family back then.   Thank you for the wonderful memories and for your service. 💙

I had the pleasure of patrolling alongside Kreg in Terrytown for many years on the Night Watch of the Second District. He was the the senior deputy amongst us back then and was someone that we could always turn to for solid advice. A true mentor. 

It wasn’t just the job that Kreg did so well, it was the professionalism that he brought with him to every single call, that set him apart from everyone else. I literally witnessed people thank him for taking them to jail. Who does that?  Kreg was a consummate professional in every sense of the word.

Kreg was also the guy that I wanted to be along side of me when I was patrolling. There was never any doubt that when things hit the fan, he would be there from the very beginning through the very end. 

Kreg and I transferred to the Detective Bureau around the same time. We continued our working relationship together even though we were in different divisions. We learned together, we failed together, and we each became better because of each other, learning from each other along the way. Kreg was always the first person to offer his help with an investigation. And his offer didn’t end at 4pm when it was time to go home. His word was his word and meant that he was 100 percent committed to the case. 
Kreg was a natural at being a Detective and his knack for talking to people became obvious. People just naturally gravitated towards him. 

A true cops cop. A patriot for his country. A great family man and father. And a great friend.  These words only begin to describe the person that Kreg Kachtik was and what he means to so many of us.
 
Rest easy my friend. Your knowledge and wisdom will live on through each and every one of us that had the privilege of knowing you.

Heather, I will heed your advice to "Keep smiling".  I smile remembering his love and care for you and Liam.
He was truly Red White and BLUE!  and now watches over you and his "Brothers".
After working hard to serve, he now rests in the arms of the Good Shepherd.
Prayers going up.  I will have a Mass offered in his name.

Hello Sgt, this is tough for me but I know you want me to be strong for everyone else. It’s not everyday you really are embrace by someone and they take unto you as their own. You treated me more like a son and always made sure I was good. Anything I needed, if I had questions or concerns you were the first I turned too. I know God made sure you heard the words, “Well done my son, you have stayed the course and finished the race!” You finished your race and left the markings for me to carry on. Rest well Sarge I got it from here. 

Kreg had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. He always appeared to be calm, cool and collected. Since 88’ when we first met we shared many a tale, but not nearly enough of them. As time and distance grew far apart as life sometimes does, I could call or stop by one of his details when I was back in Nola and pick up our conversation where we last left off like it were yesterday. I’ll always remember him as a good man with a big heart. Rest my friend, your Brothers in Arms now have the watch. 

When I first moved to New Orleans right out of college, Kreg was the very first person I met and we became  instant friends.  A few years later I became friends with his beautiful wife Heather and I knew it was a match made in heaven!  I remember going to their home for game night where Heather taught me the art of winning Monopoly and going to the Star Wars marathon at the movies!   They shared many ups and downs in my life but no matter what we remained friends.  We both started families and our lives kept us busy.  No matter what though whenever we ran into each other we always would catch up and laugh.  My heart just breaks for Heather and Liam - Kraig was definitely a diamond among men!   Our family will ALWAYS be here for you Heather if you need anything, even a cup of coffee and and ear to listen.  Love this beautiful family!!! My heart and prayers are with you always!

Kreg and I went through the Academy over 20 years ago and remained close friends. I have so many memories of him, but, one stands out. 
Kreg decided to take me fishing many years ago. That day we only caught two red fish. We headed in and met up with his dad, who was launching out to try his luck.  We showed him what we caught and gave them to him to store in his ice chest.  Kreg took me home and I figured the day was over. Later that day, he called me and asked me to come to his house. He didn’t give me any reason, He just said, “come pass by”. When I got there, he presented me with a trophy. FIRST PLACE RED FISH.  Apparently, his dad entered the fish in a fishing rodeo (which we had no clue about) and it was big enough to take the prize.  My first red fish I ever caught and it was enough to win a trophy. I still have the trophy and a picture to remember that day. 
I miss you my friend. I just simply miss you.

Kreg wasn't just an work associate he was a Friend.
Kreg always had a kind word and always offered his help if needed.
Kreg was a kind, caring, fair, mild mannered man.
Kreg is also a Hero, serving in the Military and serving our Community as a JPSO Deputy.
Kreg was also a loving Husband and Father.
Kreg will be sadly missed but not forgotten.
We can all find Peace knowing that Kreg is in Heaven with our Father God through the Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. 
Rest in Peace my Friend until we meet again in Paradise.

I will truly miss our political and philosophical discussions over coffee on detail nights. Kreg was truly a nice person and will be greatly missed. Good bye brother. Peace to you.

Always there and willing to help. A smile for everyone who crossed his path. A police officer and all-around good guy through and through.  A great dad, a great friend, a great man.  He will be missed but his legacy shall continue.  God speed my friend. Fly with the angels and keep watch over us all. Love ya Kreg ..... 

When I first came to the bureau and shared a squad room with KREG, he was NEVER to busy to help me, even when he was obviously too busy to ask. He would stop whatever case he was up to his eyes balls in, SMILE, and say, “It’s okay, whatcha got?” He explained why it was important to go the extra mile to assist the DA’s office in prosecuting a case. But more importantly, I admired the man who spoke so highly and lovingly about his wife and son. That, to me, is a testament to the heart of Kreg and what he held so dear. Kreg, you are a rare breed and will be deeply missed.

It was an honor working with you at JPSO my friend. You will truly be missed greatly. Thank you for your service. May you Rest In Peace

Kreg was a friend.  He helped me quite a bit learning how to be a police officer.  He was always there when I had a question and would be very understanding when answering.  I will miss him dearly.
