Domingo Mateo Correa

He was born on September 21st, 1935 in Guines, Havana, Cuba.

He was a retired Electrical Engineer from Entergy Corporation. In Cuba, he worked for the Nicaro Nickel Company in Nicaro, Oriente, until he had to leave the country in 1962 due to the political situation on the island.

He attended Havana University and graduated from LSU as an Electrical Engineer in 1959.

He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Honor Society in Engineering, Louisiana Engineering Society, past member of the Institute of Electric and Electronics Engineers, and former President of the Club Cubano de Profesionales de Nueva Orleans.

He was preceded in death by his parents Domingo Correa and Angela Socorro, and by his brother Eddy Correa.

Sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Angela Meulener Correa, his sons Domingo Manuel Correa (Jennifer) of New Orleans and Alejandro Javier Correa (Shay) of Macon, Georgia and his grandchildren Celia Evan, Andrew, Matthew, Joshua, and Hollis Correa whom they all affectionately called “Abo.”

He was a person that never met a stranger, striking up conversations wherever he went, whether shopping or dining out. He also loved deeper conversation, especially about politics, history, religion, and current events. His true love was his family; he would often say that “family was everything,” and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting and milestone events.

The family would like to thank his friends for the support they offered during his illness, the doctors and nurses from Ochsner Benson Cancer Center for their caring treatment, Compassus Hospice for his end-of-life support, Father Andy Gonzales for officiating, and Belinda Jimenez for her assistance.

Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Visitation from 10:00am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00a.m. The inurnment will be private.
