

Donald R. Bourgeois, Sr. passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the age of 88. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. Donald graduated from St. Aloysius High School and had a long career as a Systems Analyst for United States Department of Agriculture. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge J. Bourgeois and Thelma Haydel Bourgeois Brown; and brother, Eldridge “EJ” Bourgeois.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marian James Bourgeois; his daughter, Gwen B. Little (Chuck); his son, Donald R. “Donny” Bourgeois, Jr.; grandchildren, Bradley Bourgeois, Mandy B. Fleetwood (Bryan), Donald R. “Donny” Bourgeois, III (Katie), Clint J. Bourgeois (Carlie), Charles E. “Trey” Little, III (Amanda), April L. Martin (Drew); great-grandchildren, Emerson Mae Fleetwood, Elle Morgan Fleetwood, Eden Marie Fleetwood, Donald R. Bourgeois, IV and Sawyer Marc Martin; sister, Shelby Delhomme; brother, Wayne L. Bourgeois (Eloise).
Donald was a lifelong resident of Arabi, La. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He worked for the National Finance Center for 38 years from age 18 until his retirement at age 55. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was driven by his strong faith in God. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of his life and they loved their Pappy. He loved to travel and was fortunate enough to see the world, but his happy place was Orange Beach, where his children and grandchildren enjoyed so many great times. He was a Division 1 basketball referee for over 35 years working in numerous conferences including; Big 12, Conference USA, Sunbelt, Southland, Metro, Southwest and GCAC. He was the supervisor of officials for the GCAC for 5 years and was inducted into the St. Bernard Parish Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. The Family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to St. Bernard Ochsner Hospital for their professionalism and outstanding medical care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Paris Road, Chalmette, La 70043. Visitation will begin at 10 am followed by a mass beginning at 12 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask for charitable donations to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church.
