Mr. Donald Merwin

Donald “Red” Merwin, 80, entered peacefully into heaven on January 22, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband of 45 years to the late Joyce King Merwin. Loving father of his two cherished daughters Shelley Merwin Ritz (Brian) and Denise Merwin Cooper (Darrin), and his beloved son the late Donald “Donnie” Anthony Merwin. Beloved grandfather of two wonderful grandsons, Peyton M. Ritz and Garrett D. Cooper. Son of the late Edwin Joseph Merwin and Gertrude Gelis. Brother of JoAnn Flous, Judith M Fireck, Harold (Speedy) Buquoi; and the late Harry Merwin, Edwin Charles Merwin and Allen Paul Merwin. Donald is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends, namely Robert Brown “Peanut”. A native of New Orleans, LA, resident of Chalmette, LA for 36 years and a current resident of Belle Chasse, LA. Donald worked many years in construction and enjoyed working as an operating engineer before retiring with his own company, Red’s Construction. Donald was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Grand Lodge of Louisiana Andrew Jackson No. 428 and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., U.S.A. in the Valley of New Orleans Orient of Louisiana; and also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers LO406. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm until service time.
