Don was born on March 31, 1928, to Frances Scott and Frederick Mohler in Swanton, Ohio. He was raised on a farm and learned to hunt and fish.
After serving in the Coast Guard, Don married Leilahmae Conley in 1949. They raised five children and resided in St. Claire Shores, MI until 1965, when the family was moved to New Orleans, LA. Don and Lei enjoyed 65 years of marriage until her death in 2015.
Don had a long career as an insurance adjuster. After over forty years in New Orleans, he and Lei moved to Hammond, LA. Don was a skilled carpenter, and he constructed numerous structures in his younger days. Later, he continued to enjoy woodworking and was a prolific birdhouse maker.
Donald was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He served the on the church board and in numerous capacities while in New Orleans. His loving and cherished church home in Hammond is St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Donald is predeceased by his wife Leilahmae Conley Mohler, daughter Marsha Mohler, grandson Nathanial Kennedy, sister Doris Ann, and sister Sue.
Don is survived by his sister Lucille Niles, daughters Donna Brown, husband Charles, Denise Kennedy, husband Alvin, Emily Huber, and son Donald Mohler Jr., wife Karen. Also grandchildren Jason Brown, wife Melissa, Jessica Alaniz, Matthew Huber, wife Britney, Abigail King, Kirsten Ward, husband Daniel, Aaron Brown, wife Paige, and Alison Mondebello, husband Chad. Don is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren and his beloved (but spoiled) cat Gretchen Mohler, recently adopted by Don’s daring son Don Jr. and his wife Karen.
Services will be at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans on August 3, 2021. Visitation will begin at 1pm and a funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Louis Boldt at 2pm. Friends and family are invited to attend. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park.
