

Doris Claire Eckelmann passed away early Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023, at the age of 92. She was the devoted daughter of Florence Mary Faye Eckelmann and Clarence John William Eckelmann; loving sister of Carol Ann Eckelmann and the late Clarence Francis Eckelmann; aunt to Karen Frances Eckelmann and Melissa Burroughs (William “Rusty”); great aunt to Tara Yochim (Michael), Jessica Carey, Alexia Carey, Tyler Carey (Samantha), Renee Salerno (Nick), Aimee Browning (Justin), Luke Burroughs (Audrey), and eight great, great nieces and nephews.
When Doris graduated from Kohn High School in New Orleans. Her classmates voted her “Friendliest,” “Most Unselfish,” and “Most Dignified,” three of the many qualities that she exhibited throughout her life as her family, friends, and neighbors can attest.
Doris began her career at New Orleans Public Service (now part of Entergy) in 1951 as a stenographer, rising to Executive Secretary, then Supervisor of Cash Management in the Treasury Department. She retired in 1991.
Doris volunteered in numerous areas, in particular with, Jackson Avenue Evangelical Congregation in New Orleans and Parkway Presbyterian Church in Metairie. She was known for her love of baking and needlework, but her passion was gardening even in the last months of her life. Doris had a particular talent for home and garden design, and she loved meeting with friends for coffee and conversation.
Doris will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
