Dorothy Rita Archer

Dorothy Rita Archer passed away on December 28, 2023, at the age of 102. She was a native of New Orleans and a resident in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Dorothy was a retired Assistant Vice President of the Whitney National Bank. She was an associate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace (formerly Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic) having begun her relationship with the community as a volunteer in 1941. Dorothy was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist beginning in 1979 and served in that capacity at various hospitals and nursing homes in New Orleans.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas C. Archer Sr. and Lillie Schneider Archer; her siblings, Sister Caritas (Margaret) Archer, Anna A. Bonnette, Shirley A. Belcher, Lillie A. Boos and Thomas C. Archer Jr.; and her nieces Margaret Ann Belcher Breaux and Shirley E. Belcher.

“Dede” is survived by her beloved nieces, nephews and their spouses; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give thanks to Sunrise of Metairie Senior Living and a special thanks to Janet, Kelly, the staff and residents of The Laurel Senior Living for the care and love they showed Dorothy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 9AM and Mass will follow at 1PM. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will follow at Lake Lawn’s Event Center.
