Dorothy Oser Ferrand

Dorothy Oser Ferrand, of Metairie, Louisiana, died with her loving family surrounding her, on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the age of 103. She was born in New Orleans on November 3, 1917 to the late George and Annie Krause Oser.

Dorothy was the beloved wife for 54 years of the late Isidore “Cookie” Ferrand; loving mother of Lynn Wolken (John) and Elaine Amato (Anthony); sister of the late Glenn Oser, Naomi Belleview, George Oser, Jr., Lawrence Oser, and Lorraine Spiehler; grandmother of Terrilyn Lemoine, Cynthia Cervini (David), Mark Amato (Gina), and David Amato (Mary); great grandmother of Rachel Lemoine Downie (James), Rebecca Lemoine Miller (Sean), Shannon Schoenhardt, Sean Schoenhardt, Whitney Amato, Hailey Amato, Julia Cervini, Riley Amato, and Emily Amato, and the late Braeden Booth; and great-great grandmother of Sadie Downie and Forest “Alec” Lanning. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born and raised in New Orleans, and was a graduate of Sophie B. Wright High School and Rabouin Business School. She was the preferred substitute teacher for 46 years at Marie B. Riviere Elementary School in Metairie. She was past president of many organizations, including Live Wires Electrical Union, and the Ladies Auxiliary at Trinity Evangelical Church, Old Metairie Protestant Church, and Munholland United Methodist Church. She was a member of Old Metairie Protestant Church.

Dorothy loved playing cards and tending to her plants in her sun room and patio. Most of all, she loved being with her family.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to our mother’s caregiver, Laurie Gilmore, for her loving care and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the service in Metairie Cemetery at All Saints Mausoleum.
