Dorothy C. Schmidt

Dorothy Cuccia Schmidt, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, born September 1, 1929 passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the age of 92.She was surrounded by family, friends, companions, and her primary caregivers Brian Schmidt and Stacey Sharee Simoneaux. She received her education from St. Catherine of Siena, Sacred Heart, and Loyola University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She performed analysis of consumable products for the state of Louisiana as well as evidence for the New Orleans police crime lab. She was a member of Sweet Adelines, and a saxophonist with the Loyola University band. Mrs. Schmidt pursued interest in interior design as well as architectural salvage, restoration, and real estate development. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward L. Schmidt Jr.; parents Anthony Cuccia and Margaret Martin. She is survived by three sons and six grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM followed by a service at 12:00PM. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude Hospital.
