It is with great sorrow that the family of Dorothy “Dot” Susan Readdy Tucker Seaver announces her passing on January 18, 2022. Dot was born to William and Gertrude Readdy on March 2, 1936, in Passaic, New Jersey and was the only girl in a family of three children. Upon graduating from high school, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from Holy Name Nursing School in Teaneck, New Jersey in 1957.
While working at Anne Arundel General Hospital in Annapolis, Maryland, she met Ensign Paul Tucker. They married on June 5, 1958 and had four children. Dot and the children joined Paul in traveling around the world, living in various cities in the United States, then Australia, Jamaica, and eventually settled in New Orleans, Louisiana. Here, they raised their children and helped build a family business, Frame City & Art Gallery. After many successful years in the family business, she returned to nursing and followed her strong fondness for the beach and sun and moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where her parents had retired years ago. Upon her retirement from nursing, Dot did as many true New Orleanians do, she returned to the city and culture that she loved.
Anyone who knew Dot was impressed by her kindness and fun-loving nature, as well as by her love of stylish jewelry and animal-print clothing. She also had a loving heart for the many dogs and cats that she adopted and nurtured throughout her life. A devoted Catholic, she earned a Basic Elementary Teacher Training certification from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans to share her faith with children. In her later years, you could find her every Sunday at Mater Dolorosa or at St. Francis Assisi with her grandchildren. Dot spent her last years living in Houston, Texas, where she dearly missed participating in New Orleans’ annual Mardi Gras celebrations, but continued to cheer her beloved New Orleans Saints football team.
She is survived by her four children: Debbie (Mark) Nichols of Houston, TX; Tim (Christina) Tucker of New Orleans, LA; Cindy Haas of Houston, TX; and Patrick (Nichole) Tucker of New Orleans, LA. To her six grandchildren, (Trevor, Taylor, Haley, Jack, Ameli and Julia), and her twin great-grandsons (Carson and Carter), to whom she was affectionately known as Dot Dot.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 11:00AM. The interment at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum will follow the chapel service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research or Special Pals Animal Rescue in Houston, TX, www.specialpals.org.
