Edith Leonard Colihan passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2016 at Passages Hospice in New Orleans, at the age of 92. She was the cherished wife of the late Eugene J. Colihan for 46 years. Loving mother to Ellen C. Wells and Anna C. Fasic and various “adopted” friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Justilla Trahan and Gilbert Leonard, her sisters and brothers, Rita Babin, Gilbert Leonard, Edmund Leonard, and Myrtle Hinds. She was a proud and loving Nana to her 3 grandchildren, Ashleigh, Kelsey and Cameron Fasic. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and several great great nieces and nephews in Louisiana and Pennsylvania.
Edith grew up on Bayou Black, outside of Houma, LA. After her marriage, she lived in Philadelphia, PA for 5 years before moving to New Orleans where she resided until her death. Throughout her adult life she held several jobs in retail sales and commercial banking. After her “first” retirement, she reentered the work force as a receptionist for State Investors – she loved her job and being part of the State Investors Family. After her “Second” and final retirement she volunteered at Mercy Hospital and St. Dominic’s Church. For over 15 years she helped to make cookies for several St. Joseph’s Altars – even while living in Baton Rouge for a year after Hurricane Katrina. She was a proud member of her AARP Chapter and the Rosarian’s of St. Dominic’s.
She will never be far from our thoughts as we continue on our life’s journey without her.
A special thanks to Passages Hospice for her their excellent care over the past 7 months.
