So many great memories of playing tennis, riding bikes, time in Independence, LA, learning French, saving and investing money, and working out at Elmwood fitness Center.  I spent alot of time, especially Saturdays, with Bobonne and Bonpapa growing up and Bobonne taught me so many things. We love and will miss you, Bobonne ❤️

Sending heartfelt thoughts to Anne Marie. While we lost touch many years ago, I hold in memory the time we shared. Back in our 20’s your parents made an impression with their strong character, European roots and influence in your life. No doubt your skill at the piano was a talent encouraged by and pleasing to your parents. So sorry for the loss of your Mother.

Married on the feast of the Holy Innocents 

Darrell, Gavin, and I send prayers and love to the Vandenweghe family. Tante Edith. as we called her, was like a "3rd" grandmother to me. I am so grateful for the many occasions I had growing up and as an adult to sit next to her on her comfy couch and listen to her tell stories about her family and her childhood in Ypres. I learned important lessons about finance and investing from Tante Edith. There were always cookies, chocolates, waffles, laughter, and hugs aplenty at her house! Tante Edith was an amazing listener and I came away from every conversation with sage advice  and more confidence about what I should do next. In 2007 I joined Tante Edith and Onkel Tony on a trip to Belgium, and we spent time visiting all the important landmarks of Ypres.  Onkel Tony and Tante Edith's decision to stay in New Orleans permanently led in part to my dad -"my little brother" as she often called him-making New Orleans home also. He met my mom, and eventually my sister and I were born in New Orleans also. Tante Edith is sitting next to Onkel Tony in heaven holding his hand now. Dear Roland, Anne Marie, children and grandchildren

So sorry to hear about aunt Edith's passing away, she really was a special woman. I had the opportunity to stay at River Ridge in 1977 and quickly found out how warm hearted she could be. In 2000 she and  Uncle Toone hosted our family for over a week, which was an unforgettable experience. 
Their visits to Belgium unvariably were joyful and sparkling.
Aunt Edith will stay in our hearts as a cherished family member.  We hope the good memories will help you overcome the loss you are experiencing now.

Thank you Anne Marie, Alan, and Izzy for bringing Edith into our extended and very eccentric family gatherings. To me she was the epitome of an old world gracious lady. I loved hearing about her daily ration of Belgian chocolate and evening cocktail. I am still in awe of her daily breakfast spread. You all made her last years comfortable and secure. She will be missed whenever we all gather without her presence.

The Vandenweghe family is in my prayers today.     Aunt Edith will definitely be missed.  She was like a grandmother to me and  I  will forever cherish the time we spent together.  The endless tennis games with the wonderful  ice tea,  the advice though all the years and the laughter ! My favorite memory is when she visited us in Baltimore and went sailing with us on the Chesapeake at 83. The whole  family is in my prayers.  

Born, raised and married in Ypres, a city located in a West Flanders province of Belgium, where she lived during World War II, she immigrated to New Orleans, LA on March 13, 1950, arriving aboard the SS VELMA LYKES with her husband.  They would never leave.  They both became proud United States citizens on June 7, 1955.  Bobonne and Bonpapa loved the greater New Orleans area, living briefly in Gentilly before ultimately settling in RiverRidge.  They were equally fond of their weekend retreat in Independence, Louisiana. Bobonne was a top real estate agent for Gertrude Gardner for many years.  She was an avid and talented tennis player.  And she was a keen and passionate investor.  One of her favorite pastimes was to pray the Rosary, which she did daily for the past decade-plus of her life.  She was a long-time parishioner of the St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge.   She loved French bread and was also fond of a not-so-occasional cocktail.   She was famous for her rumcake, which was never missing a healthy helping of rum. 🍰
