Edna Mae Ellerbusch Duvoisin peacefully joined our Lord and Savior surrounded by family on June 6, 2025, at the age of 88. A native of New Orleans, Edna graduated from Redemptorist High School, taught at Our Lady of Good Council, took evening college courses, and was working at the Louisiana Agriculture Research Center when she met Paul, the love of her life. They married in 1963.
Edna was always an educator. With her brilliant mind and creative ways, she made learning fun. Her instruction inspired students, co-workers, and especially her children. Her most challenging role in life was as a full-time wife and mother. Her love, constant support, and nurturing ways molded her children and guided them through every milestone and hardship. She sacrificed much and required little. She was strong-willed and stood firm to her convictions no matter the consequence. No job or person was beneath her, and she instilled these values in others. Through their combined efforts, she and Paul were able to ensure that every one of their children (and grandchildren!) attended college.
Edna loved watching most sporting events, and was a loyal follower of Little League Baseball, the New York Yankees, and the Saints. Reading was her chosen pastime and cookbook collecting her favorite hobby. She also enjoyed baking and several arts and crafts, especially sewing, needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Many family members and charities were the fond recipients of her handmade gifts of love. Edna shared with – and even taught these skills to – her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was time spent with them.
Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Gerhardt and Nora Robichaux Ellerbusch. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Paul Duvoisin Sr., her five children, Paul Duvoisin Jr. (Sheren), Michelle Duvoisin Robert (Rhonda), Danielle Duvoisin, Renée Duvoisin Mendez (Jeffrey), Alicia Duvoisin Windham (Joshua); and seven grandchildren, André and Remy Duvoisin, Brittany Robert, Sarah and Allison Straka, and Aries and Kellyn Mendez.
A private funeral service was held for immediate family.
