Edward Ignaczak Stanley

Edward Ignaczak Stanley, born Edmund Zdzislaus Stanislaw Ignaczak, passed away on August 29, 2026 at the age of 80 at his home in Destrehan, Louisiana with his family by his side. After a 4 ½ year courageous battle with cancer, he succumbed to Multiple Myeloma.

Ed was born August 22, 1946, raised in Poland during his younger years and later settled in Port Chester, New York. In 1966, he graduated from St. Mary’s Preparatory High School, a Roman Catholic, Polish Boarding School in Orchard Lake, Michigan where he excelled in Academics and Sports. He met his wife, Susanne Smith, in 1966 in New York. In 1967, Ed became a United States citizen. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-1973 and was deployed to Vietnam as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist in the Special Operations Bomb Wing. During his deployment, he also traveled Southeast Asia with the U.S. Air Force playing baseball. Ed received his Civil Engineering Degree from Manhattan College in New York and later received his Master of Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology. His career that spanned over 50 years was spent in the Nuclear and Industrial industries as a prominent Civil Engineer and Construction Manager.

Ed was a 40 year parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and a part of the ACTS Community. As a devout Catholic centered in Christ, firm in his faith, he was grounded by integrity, his principals and beliefs. His passion for golf often found him at Cypress Lakes (Ormond Country Club). He coached ball for both of his children throughout their childhood in St. Charles Parish and loved watching his grandkids play sports. Ed was always caught smiling with an incredibly gentle, kind and loving personality. His greatest joy and sense of humor was centered around playing with kids, laughing and telling endless jokes at parties and family gatherings. Ed will also be remembered for his love of dogs, never short of biscuits in his pockets for any he encountered.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Susanne Smith Stanley, of 56 years; his two children: Christopher Robert Stanley (Danielle) and Allison Stanley Angelica; ten grandchildren: Luke, Carson, Georgia, Ben, Brielle, Michael, Julian, Gemma, Roman and Dominic; his sister, Monica Rurarz-Furano (Mark) and three nieces: Marzena, Milena and Emilia; and his loving dog, Scout. He was preceded in death by his mother Marianna Barbara Ignaczak Rurarz and his father Waclaw Rurarz.

The services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, LA 70047. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the funeral mass at 12:00 pm. The interment will immediately follow on the same grounds as the church in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.
