OBITUARY

Elaine Necaise Prager

March 29, 1940 – February 10, 2022
Obituary of Elaine Necaise Prager
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Elaine Necaise Prager, a native of White Cypress, Mississippi, was born on March 29, 1940 to

the late Lugis and Bertha Necaise. She passed away peacefully in her home in Algiers on

Thursday, February 2022 at the age of 81. She left this world surrounded by the love of her son,

daughter-in-law and niece.

Elaine was a country girl who always knew her soul was bound for another place. That place

was New Orleans, calling her from the countryside with the sounds of Fats Domino, Clarence

“Frogman” Henry and others she heard on the radio. She moved to the city after graduating

from University of Southern Mississippi and for years lived in the French Quarter. Seeing blacks

and whites sharing a stage with no thoughts of race was always an inspiration.

Meeting and marrying Jay Prager, a native of uptown New Olreans, they moved to Algiers to

raise a family. Elaine enjoyed her career in public schools as an educator and loved teaching

her students until finishing her career at Edna Karr in Algiers. She enjoyed playing cards,

especially bridge which took her on the road for competitive play. She was very active in

Louisiana politics for years as a campaign volunteer. At home she cared for a beautiful rose

garden where she could be found sitting quietly listening to the birds or sipping on a scotch and

thinking about life. She especially enjoyed reading, reflecting, and discussing philosophy as well

as keeping up with her journaling.

Conservative but spunky by nature some of her more fond memories were going out in the

Quarter in her 20’s to hear Frogman Henry. Not many single women ventured out alone for

music back then she said but Frogman would make sure she had her space and no unwelcome

men would stay by for long.

Elaine is preceded in death by her former husband J.B. Prager III, her sisters, Yvonne Ladner

and Lynell Ladner. She is survived by her son Bruno Prager and brother Lugis Necaise Jr.

The family would like to give special thanks to Marie Amedee and Heart of Hospice.
