Elisabeth Frey Wedig

Elisabeth Frey Wedig died peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Hammond, Louisiana. Lisa was the daughter of Harold H. and Fay Beth Frey Wedig and the sister to Eric Wedig (Regina), Fr. Mark Wedig, O.P., and Brian Wedig (Carol). Her parents and her grandparents (Walter G. and Lillian Harvey Wedig and Frank P. and Elsie Graff Frey) predeceased her. She is survived by her brothers and their wives, Paul Wedig, her nephew, Decorio Wedig, her son, and her former husband, Stephen Morillo, along with numerous cousins. Lisa was a proud graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans and received a B.A. from Boston University. She was a teacher for many years in the Durham County, North Carolina middle school system focusing on at-risk students, teaching them to read and develop important life skills. She also used her computer skills while working at Duke University. Lisa, a native of New Orleans, recently returned to live in Louisiana, choosing Ponchatoula as her new home. She will be missed by her family and many friends, and her beloved dog, Elsie. Special thanks to the care givers at Richard Murphy Hospice House and Modern Home Health and Hospice who gave such gentle and compassionate care during Lisa’s final days. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Family will receive guests beginning at 12:00 Noon. Inurnment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. The family invites guests to the Funeral Home Event Center immediately following the Increment for light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation, 1109 S. Chestnut Street, Hammond, LA 70403.
