Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Chopin passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 20, 1938, she was preceded in death by her parents, William Grunewald Chopin and Anna Joan Cooper Chopin, her brother, Cooper Chopin and her sister, Joan Elise Chopin Rubenstein. Beth is survived by her nieces and nephew, Elizabeth Rubenstein Spencer of Salida, CO Madeleine Rubenstein Badame of Baton Rouge and Harry Rubenstein of Memphis, TN as well as her 2 great nephews Harry Spencer and Rob Spencer, and a multitude of really close cousins, friends, and relatives.
Beth graduated from Ursuline Academy in New Orleans and Louisiana State University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. She began her professional journey at Shell Oil, working in New York City and Atlanta. Upon the untimely death of her beloved brother Cooper in 1979, Beth returned to New Orleans to manage the family business, Peter A. Chopin Florist, a cornerstone of the Garden District and Uptown New Orleans, located on St. Charles Avenue at Washington Ave. for 100 years. She dedicated her life to running the shop until 2005, when the impact of Hurricane Katrina led to her decision to retire.
Beth was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a talented floral designer. She poured her creativity and passion into her work, and her stunning floral arrangements brought elegance and beauty to countless social events and special occasions all over the greater New Orleans area.
Beth was a fixture in her lower Garden District neighborhood, often seen walking her much-adored and very spoiled rescue dogs. She had her own unique style and a wonderful laugh that could light up a room. Beth did not suffer fools, but if you were lucky enough to be her friend, you had a friend for life. Beth’s family and friends will remember her as a woman of great generosity. She often opened her home to friends and relatives visiting New Orleans and loved showing them her favorite spots around town. Her warmth and hospitality touched all who knew her. Deeply committed to giving back to her community, she volunteered her time and talents to Mercy Endeavors and other charitable organizations, and felt fulfilled in enriching the lives of the less fortunate.
We find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, enjoying the freedom and joy of God’s eternal kingdom, which she so desired in her final years. Until we meet again, dear Beth.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 1:00pm. Donations may be made to the Louisiana SPCA or Bridge House, both causes close to Beth’s heart.
