Elizabeth Caryl Haney passed unexpectedly on February 2nd, 2021. Elizabeth was born on March 30th, 1984 to Jolanta Nowotnik Haney and William Keith Haney in New Orleans, Louisiana. Elizabeth Caryl Haney was named after her late maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Trachtenberg Nowotnik, of Lodz, Poland and her late paternal aunt, Caryl Ann Haney, of Covington, Louisiana.
Elizabeth was a “Lusher-Lifer,” having attended Lusher from Kindergarten through eighth grade, before graduating from Grace King with her high school diploma in 2003.
Despite being born with complex metabolic, physiological, and intellectual disabilities, Elizabeth surpassed medical expectations for longevity and quality of life.
Elizabeth was happiest when she was going out and socializing with friends new and old, surrounded by animals and children, listening to music, dancing, and laughing while talking on the phone. Her hobbies included decorating for every season, playing card games and dominos, collecting Mardi Gras throws, taking long walks with her friends, and being the best cat mom to her tomcat Sarah. Elizabeth was the kind of neighbor who waved to everyone in the neighborhood and reveled in the gossip and goings on of all her friends and neighbors. She was curious, sincere, and loved to laugh. Elizabeth spent her final days doing the things she enjoyed most: hanging out with her friends at Camp Able, decorating for Mardi Gras, and being surrounded by the people who loved her and those she loved, especially her dedicated and loving brother Chris. Elizabeth’s sudden passing is an unimaginable loss to her community, friends, and family.
Inseparable from her mother in life, Elizabeth has been met in heaven by the loving embrace of her mother Jolanta and her father William, who both preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Christopher William Haney.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed by Chris and her huge circle of loved ones and friends whose lives where enriched by knowing and loving sweet Elizabeth.
