Elizabeth Fischer Lacroix “Betty” passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Monday, May 17, 2021 after a long illness. She was happily married to the late Paul George Lacroix, Jr. for 48 years. She is survived by her children Paul George Lacroix, III (Melissa), Lynn Lillian “Missy” Lacroix (Gary Hemphill), and Robert Fischer “Bob” Lacroix (Sheri) and her beloved grandchildren: Megan Lacroix, Paul George Lacroix IV (Renee), Carrie Lacroix Doyle (Matt), William M Metcalf, III, Elizabeth (Bitsy) Lacroix Metcalf, Robert Fischer Lacroix, Jr., Madeline Callahan Lacroix, step-grandchildren John C. Hemphill and Matthew D. Hemphill. Betty cherished her four great-grandchildren: Dylan Post, Alex Post, Caroline Doyle and Emilia Lacroix; sister, Margie Butterworth and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Esther Fischer and siblings Elva Livaudais, Edward Fischer, Rosemary Banker, Esther Forst and Elmo Fischer.
Betty was a woman who enjoyed life to the fullest, yet only needed the simple things in life to make her happy; faith, family and her beloved city of New Orleans. She was a devout Catholic who was a Eucharistic Minister and received the Order of St.
Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. She was focused on praying for her family’s well-being until her death. She was a loyal supporter of everything that New Orleans represented including Jesuit High School, Tulane University, and of course the Saints. Betty expanded her loyalties to include LSU after two grandchildren attended school there. Her ultimate satisfaction was that all seven grandchildren graduated from college and developed a passion for life, faith and the unique culture of New Orleans.
Known as Mere to her grandchildren, she enjoyed all of the traditions of Mardi Gras and loved gathering with family and friends to watch the parades on St. Charles Avenue. Betty always enjoyed a nectar cream snowball, boiled crabs, bridge games, sewing, cooking, lunch at the Orleans Club, bingo at Southern Yacht Club and finishing the day with sunsets on the Gulf Coast or on the porch in WaterColor, Florida.
Betty was buried on Saturday, May 22, 2021 with a Mass of Christian Burial in Metairie Lakelawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Christwood Skilled Nursing...especially Catherine, Jackie, Geraldine and Patti and the Notre Dame Hospice staff for the years of care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the charity of your choice or Jesuit High School, 4133 Banks St, NOLA, 70119.
