Elizabeth (Liz) Krieger Miranne died on September 12, 2022, at the age of 79, after an extended battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of New Orleans and Metairie, she was the daughter of the late Eleanor Fazzio Krieger and the late John Joseph Krieger and was a devoted wife to the late Alfred C. Miranne, Jr. She was also predeceased by her sister Eleanor K. Barcia (Joe). Liz is survived by her loving son, Ryan Krieger Balot (Laura); her beloved sister, Mary Joe Krieger; and her treasured grandchildren, Julia, Corinne, and Silvie Balot.
An accomplished pianist, Liz enjoyed playing classical music and popular songs from the early twentieth century. As an English teacher at St. Joseph Academy and Mt. Carmel Academy and as a guidance counselor at New Orleans Academy, she touched the lives of many students. For many years, Liz volunteered in the psychiatric ward at East Jefferson General Hospital and later worked in the hospital’s Elder Advantage Program and Guest Services. A basketball player in her youth, she passionately supported her favorite sports teams, above all the New Orleans Saints and the UNC Tar Heels. Liz was an avid reader and also enjoyed traveling, particularly to see her son and his family in Canada. Prior to COVID-19, she always looked forward to eating out with her long-time dinner group. Liz was strengthened in her struggle against cancer by her Catholic faith.
The family is grateful to Dr. Thomas Cosgriff, Liz’s oncologist, and to all of the staff at Lakeside Hospice, particularly Marjorie, Monica, and Valencia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Funeral Home at noon on Saturday, September 24, 2022, which will be followed by a reception. Prior to the Mass, visitation will be held from 10:00am to noon. Interment will take place at Hope Mausoleum at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make charitable donations in Liz’s name.
