Elizabeth "Beth" W. Petrie

Elizabeth “Beth” Whinon Petrie passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the age of 85. After graduating from Francis T. Nicholls High School, she worked at Donovan Marine in New Orleans for over 48 years. Following Hurricane Katrina, she retired to care for her beloved daughter, Pamela, and later her late husband, Roy.

Beth enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, cooking, Tulane, LSU, and Saints football and celebrating Mardi Gras. She was a long-time member of the Krewe of Iris, as well as a member of the Krewe of Les Bijoux, and the Krewe of Cleopatra.

Beth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy G. Petrie; parents Louis Alfred and Inez Zeleny Whinon; and sister, Inell H. Giusti (the late Ernest J. Giusti, Sr.).

Beth is survived by her daughters, Pamela I. Petrie and Paula P. Hebert (Edwin); sister, Helen W. Hartmann (the late Emile W. Hartmann, Jr.) and sister-in-law, Juanita Whiddon (John); nieces, Mary G. Fenton (the late Lionel Fenton), Jennifer S. Knight (Jeff), and Melissa H. Hebert (Ryan); nephews, Ernest J. Giusti, Jr., Michael J. Giusti, Kenneth Whiddon and George Whiddon; several great nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Barney.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at St. Catherine’s Hospice and Clara’s Sitting Service for the loving way they cared for Beth.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, on September 24, 2024 at 1pm. Visitation is from 11am until service time followed by interment at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
