

Betty was born on December 18, 1930 in the small town of Westwego, west of New Orleans. Betty was the eighth child of nine children born to Caliste Roger and Annie Lala LeCompte. Growing up in a large tight-knit family, she learned the values of hard work, love, sense of humor and devotion.
Betty was working in sales when she met Vincent Tusa. They were married for 31 years and together raised three girls in Lakeview, New Orleans. Betty is survived by her daughters, Sharon Frances Tusa Halperin, Sheila Lynn Tusa Ostrow, and Sandra Ann Tusa Assaf. Betty was also the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren: Victoria Halperin Kuhns and Eric Halperin, Steven and Ellen Ostrow, and Alexander, Ariana Jokers Gowin, and Austin Assaf. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Cora and Mitchell Halperin Kuhns; Piper, Tenley, Kensington and Ryklee Ostrow; Harriet Elizabeth Rankin; Emory Assaf; Ella and Jett Jokers.
She was preceded in death by her eight siblings: Wilda F. LeCompte Taravella, Eula Mae LeCompte Taulli, Dorothy Virginia LeCompte Marse, Harold Joseph LeCompte, Dolly Margaret LeCompte Bertucci, Lois LeCompte Martin Baio, Annalee Rita LeCompte Chaisson, Geraldine Annette LeCompte Guidry.
Betty is also survived by nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Betty enjoyed a good story especially when sharing anecdotes with her family or when selecting and reading novels of various genres. She also loved to garden, developing flowering landscapes around and in her home. Her skills in the kitchen were appreciated by all. Her energy was immense for she worked in sales into her seventies. She enjoyed her independence until she needed support when she moved into Riverbend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2018. Her sense of humor was enjoyed by all.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum (The Patio at South Corridor 'A'), 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans.
