Elmo James Spellman

Elmo James Spellman, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2015. He is preceded in death by his father Elmo Edward Spellman and mother Myra Dedlow Spellman Macaluso. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen McCoy Spellman, sons Chris, Kenny and Brian, grandchildren Chloe, Marcus, Jake, Ashley and Alyse, brother Larry Macaluso and sisters Myra St. Clair and Marie Golbski. Elmo owned and operated Esplanade Optical in Metairie, Louisiana for 33 years. Elmo was past president of Louisiana Association of Dispensing Opticians and Opticians Association of America. He was also a member of a number of other optical professional organizations. Elmo was Co-Captain of Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Walking Club, a member of the Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Club and a former member of the Krewe of Endymion. He was a 1959 graduate of Redemptorist High School, New Orleans. Elmo also served in the Louisiana National Guard 141st Artillery. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at St. Ann Catholic Church, 4940 Meadowdale St., Metairie, Louisiana at 12:00 noon Monday, November 30, 2015. Visitation before the mass at St. Ann from 10:00 am until Mass time. Visitation will also be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Interment will be private.
