

She was born in Jefferson County, Mississippi, on April 22, 1934. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Elementary Counseling from Southern University in Baton Rouge. She completed additional studies at Loyola University, Xavier University, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Southern University in New Orleans.
Nora was an elementary school teacher in Plaquemines Parish for eight years and in Jefferson Parish for twenty-six years. Following her retirement, she was a substitute teacher and mentor for several years.
Nora's commitment to her faith was unwavering. In 2013, she received the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion Award. at St. Katharine Drexel (formerly Holy Ghost) Catholic Church, she was a member of the choir, Parish Council, and Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, Court 52. She also served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, catechist, choir member, and member of the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Rita Catholic Church.
In her later years, Nora remained active by serving as an Ambassador at Laketown Village Assisted Living. She faithfully attended the community’s weekly Catholic Mass, Rosary services, and social activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary W. Green, and her son, Adonis C. Collins.
Nora is survived by her devoted niece and caregiver, Sandra Johnson (Ralph); great-niece and godchild, Leslie Johnson; sister, Dr. Marilyn Coleman, and many other beloved relatives and friends.
Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Laketown Village Assisted Living, Ochsner Health System, and Serenity Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at All Saints Mausoleum, located on the funeral home grounds.
