She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Joseph Landry, parents, Gustave Kroll and Cora Grethel Kroll, and sister, Gloria McCormick.
Eloise is survived by her daughters, Janet Groce (David), Laurie Walsdorf (John), Carol Landry, and Fran Arnondin (Chuck), grandchildren, Brad Groce, Steven Groce (Samantha), Karen Groce, Jaclyn Brignac (Ben), John Walsdorf, Jr (Kelsey), Michelle Lawson (Kyle), and Matthew Arnondin (Angelle), and great-grandchildren, Jack Groce, Julie Groce, Jessie Groce, Marie Brignac, Levi Brignac, David Brignac, Blaine Lawson, Jack Arnondin, Brooke Lawson, and Luke Arnondin.
Eloise met the love of her life Jack on Mardi Gras Day at the young age of 13. After graduating from Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans, she married WWII Marine Jack Landry on July 1, 1945, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church and eagerly became a homemaker and mother.
She loved caring for her four girls, sewing beautiful dresses, doll clothes, and curtains for the home. She cooked the best gumbo, stuffed eggplant, stuffed mirlitons, bread pudding, and brownies. Eloise’s brownies were so good that her husband Jack frequently brought them to the family business, Mother’s Restaurant.
Eloise is remembered for her kind spirit and her love of telling stories. She quietly and humbly enjoyed writing poetry covering family and life events like marriage, births, and milestones. Most importantly, Eloise will be remembered for her love of family and God. Anyone that met her knew within a few minutes that she loved her husband Jack, had four wonderful daughters, seven wonderful grandchildren, and ten wonderful great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Big GG”.
Her love of God was evident in everything she did. Eloise was a long-time parishioner of Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church in Metairie, La. She seemed to have a superpower for having her prayers answered. Although she never sang professionally, her rendition of Ave Maria stopped people in their tracks.
In celebration of Eloise’s long life, relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 10am to 12 noon with a Mass to begin at noon. Following services, Eloise will be laid to rest at All Saints Mausoleum beside the love of her life, Jack.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
